2008-09 USTA
Junior Team Tennis
Program.
Open to: SCJTL White and Blue Division players! Middle School, Jr.
Varsity and Varsity level experienced players! USTA Tournament Level
3, 2, and 1 players!
The
SCJTL Competition Squad
(Comp Squad)
team program is a comprehensive team tennis experience with practice
sessions, inter and intra club team matches, and participation in
team tournaments designed to provide match play experiences.
Team practices will include a training theme combined with
intra-team match play.
Team members may register for only the practices and matches they
are available to participate.
Everyone plays in every practice and match they registered for.
The
SCJTL Competition Squad
will compete
against local club teams as well as teams enrolled
in the USTA Junior Team
Tennis
and Sportime Interclub Team competition programs.

This season the SCJTL
Competition Squad will return to the USTA Junior Team Tennis indoor
team competition.
SCJTL has been a registered USTA Junior Team Tennis program since
1997.
Joe Arias is the USTA Suffolk County JTT Area League Coordinator since
2006.
SCJTL Comp Squad players
have the chance to compete with JTT teams on Long Island to qualify
for JTT Regional, Sectional and National tournaments.
Players who wish to compete in USTA Regional, Sectional, and
National challenges must play a minimum of 3 JTT interclub matches
to qualify.
All team members will be registered for USTA Junior Team Tennis
Regional and Sectional match play through Tennis Link and USTA JTT
League registration database.
USTA membership may be required for Regional or Sectional match
play. Players will be notified if this is necessary.

Player qualifications:

Boys and Girls
ages 9 to 18.

Looking
to train to qualify for Middle School, Junior Varsity and
Varsity tennis teams.

Who are
already on Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity tennis
teams.

USTA
Regional Level 3 and Sectional Level 2 and 1 tournament players.
-
USTA
Regional and Sectional ranked players.
-
SCJTL
White and Blue Division level players.

Practice sessions:
Theme based practice, tennis team drills, and intra squad match play.
Practice sessions
from November to April are held at
Sportime Kings Park , 275 Old
Indian Head RD, Kings Park
(April-May practices and events
will be held at the Port Jefferson Country Club)

4:00 PM to 7:00PM
Sportime membership not required for this program only!

More sessions will be scheduled. All practice sessions held at Sportime Kings Park
Team matches.
Home and Away matches arranged with Suffolk County clubs and
Junior Team Tennis teams, Sportime Interclub teams, Long Island and NYC teams
including the USTA BJK National Tennis Center JTT team.
Multiple team tournaments are under development.
Comp Squad
Parents Appreciation Practice session
End of season practice session involving player’s parents to
practice with team.
Beginners clinic conducted for parents who have never played!
Comp
Squad
Team Challenge.
End of season singles and doubles tournament for team members.
Teams will be form for two basic divisions each will two player
levels:
All team levels and player
positions will be determined by Head Coach according to player
registration.
Teams will be structure to provide maximum
participation and play experiences.
Players will be assigned to play
singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Player will be placed on teams according to player record including,
SCJTL ranking, visual rating by Head Coach, Regional or Sectional
ranking, local match results, and challenge play offs.
14 & Under:
Advanced = 3.5 and above - Intermediate = 3.0 and below
18
& Under:
Advanced = 3.5 and above - Intermediate = 3.0 and below
Eligibility:

This
program is open to participants on Middle School, Junior
Varsity and Varsity tennis teams and SCJTL White and Blue
Division players ages 9 to 18.

Players
must be enrolled in SCJTL Competition Squad program to
participate in team matches and practices.

Additional
requirements may be necessary based on team participation
Comp Squad team shirts will be supplied for all team members!
No minimum number of matches to attend to be on the team!
Enroll for each practice/match/event as the season progresses.

All fees must be pre-paid as required . Payments made payable to
SCJTL , Online registration and payment is available.
There may be additional fees for larger team events. Information
will be provided as teams progress. All dates are subject to change.

About the Comp Squad Coaches
Joe Arias

Jimmy Delevante
Received a scholarship to play tennis for Queens College
varsity men’s tennis team. The Queen’s College Knights
achieved a school-best ranking of #34 in the country. Jimmy
currently works at Sportime in Kings Park as a full time
tennis professional.
Jimmy is a USPTA Certified Pro 2 Teaching Professional, SCJTL Player Development Coach, Assistant
Director at the SCJTL Tennis Academy at Stony Brook
University and SCJTL Northport Site Director.
Jimmy
Delevante is also a member of the new USTA Suffolk County
District Board

Joshua Wolfson
Graduated with a degree in physical education from Hofstra
University. He has several years of coaching experience
including the 2007 Northport High School girls junior
varsity tennis team.
Josh is a USPTA Certified Pro 2 Teaching Professional, SCJTL Player Development Coach and also the SCJTL
Hauppauge Site Director.
Joshua
Wolfson is also a member of the new USTA Suffolk County
District Board

SCJTL Competition Squad played the first ever Junior Team Tennis match at the National
Tennis Center on Friday, July 14, 2006.
